Anyone can access information on sex offenders residing in Orange County by visiting the Sheriff’s Alert page. Take note that some offenders do not register their information. Bail and Bail Bond Agents:

Bail is the money or bond that is paid to the court in exchange for a defendant’s temporary release while awaiting trial. This payment is required by the court to help guarantee the defendant’s return for his trial. A refund of the bail will be done after the trial, minus a 3% administrative fee. However, if the defendant fails to show up in court, bail will be forfeited and a warrant for his arrest will be issued. If bail cannot be posted, then the defendant must stay inside the jail until the case is dismissed or he is released.
In New York, courts will only accept payments made in the exact amount because they will not provide change. They do allow individuals to use different kinds of money in one transaction. The acceptable forms of payment are:

  • US Cash
  • Cashier’s Check (the amount should not be larger than the bail amount)
  • Money order from a bank or Western Union (each order must not be more than $1000, multiple orders allowed)
  • Debit Card
  • Credit Card (plus an 8% processing fee)
A bond agent can post bail for a defendant who cannot afford it on his own. The cost of such a service is called a bond fee. The bond fee is non-refundable. The New York State Insurance Department regulates bond agents and have set their fees in a tiered system. To compute for your bond fee, just follow the system below:
    A $200-bond or less has a fee of $10.
A $3000-bond or less has a fee equal to 10% of the bail amount.
A $3001 to $10000-bond has a fee equal to 10% of the first $3000 and 8% of the remaining bail.
A bond higher than $10000 has a fee equal to 10% of the first $3000, 8% of the amount between $3000 and $10000, and 6% of the remaining amount.
    Here’s an example:
    To calculate the fee for a $15000 bond, you need to calculate (10% x $3000) + (8% x $7000) + (6% x $5000). The bond fee should be $1160.
