The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office operates two jails – the Wesley Street Jail and the Chanter Road Jail. Both jails do not maintain an online roster of inmates currently housed in the facility. To locate a person at either facility, you can call Wesley Street Jail at 517-768-7900 and Chanter Road Jail at 517-768-1609.

Important Jail Policies and Procedures:

All inmates of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office are allowed to receive visits from family and friends after they have been incarcerated for 7 days. For each inmate, a maximum of 3 visitors are allowed per day. All visitors who wish to visit the same inmate must arrive together at the visitation area. Photo identification cards must be presented to the Corrections Officer. All visitors will be subject to search. All conversations are subject to audio recording. Only children who are 48 inches or taller are allowed to visit an inmate. All visitors under 17 years old must be accompanied by a parent. Food, drinks, bags, purses, cell phones, and other recording devices will not be allowed inside the jail.

Bail and Bondsman

Bail is the amount of money set by the court as a form of collateral in exchange for the release of a defendant from custody while he/she is waiting for the trial to begin. The money will be used to guarantee the defendant’s return to court once the trial starts. If he/she doesn’t appear at his trial, the bail is revoked and forfeited.

A bondsman can act as a surety for a defendant who cannot afford to post bail on his own. A bondsman’s services typically cost 10% of the bail amount. This fee cannot be refunded.
