    Sex Offender Search and Lookup

An individual with a conviction for a sexually oriented crime such as rape, child pornography, and prostitution is considered a sex offender. The law states that all sex offenders must be registered in the state sex offender database and the national sex offender database to increase public safety and awareness. To locate sex offenders living or working on Moultrie County, residents can search the Illinois Sex Offender Registry. Keep in mind that you may get search results showing last known addresses of offenders. This may be caused by the fact that some offenders do not obey the registration law.

    Bail and Bondsman

A defendant is allowed to stay out of jail while awaiting trial if bail was posted. Bail is the money required by the court as collateral for the defendant’s appearance at his trial. The money is refunded minus court fees once the trial ends. If the defendant fails to appear, bail is forfeited.

If the bail is set too high for a defendant to pay on his own, he can hire a bondsman to help him out. A bondsman charges 10% of the bail amount for his services. Once hired, he will sign a bond with the court to secure the defendant’s release. Take note that the bond fee is non-refundable.
