Henry County is in the northwest section of Illinois just 16 miles from the Mississippi. . The county has a population 50,486 as of 2010. The county seat of Henry County is Cambridge. Henry County is included in the Davenport-Moline-Rock Island, Statistical Area.

The county was named in honor of Patrick Henry Revolutionary War hero and champion of individual rights who said, “give me liberty, or give me death.” The county was originally settled by Yankees or immigrants form New England and the western part of New York. Because of the immigrants from Puritan Northern States, the culture in Henry County is very attached with early New England.

Henry County has a total area of 826 square miles and 2.7 square miles is water. It is the 29th largest of Illinois’ 102 counties.

The jail was totally completed in 1999 and is responsible for keeping safe and sure custody of al criminal suspects of persons convicted of crimes in Henry County. The Corrections Division consist of a jail administrator appointed by their sheriff. There are 126 beds in the jail.

There is a jail chaplain available to inmates during regularly scheduled hours. A non-denominational church service is held every Sunday afternoon and a mid-week service is held on Thursday night from 8-10 pm. The Jail Chaplin is Rodney Weber of Geneseo and is assisted by volunteers.

Jail Policies and Procedures

No personal property is allowed at the jail except the property which is on the person when admitted to the jail.
The jail no longer accepts money orders or cashier checks though the mail. Money can be added to an inmates account by going to Accesscorretions.com at http://www.henrycty.com/Departments/Sheriffs-Office/Corrections, or by using the kiosk in the lobby from 8 am to 8pm.

On-site visits must be scheduled in advance and have identification. Each visit is 20 minutes and inmate are allowed on eon-site visit per week. Visitors must show up at least 15 minutes prior to the scheduled visit.

Probation officer’s are appointed to investigate, report on, and supervise the conduct of convicted offenders on probation.
